Is apple a Chinese company? iPhone made in china or India?

Apple has made a name for itself by providing valuable products worldwide. But still, people have questions about Apple in their minds like, Is Apple a Chinese company? Or Apple Made in China?

People are always talking about apple parts and product manufacturing.

Consumers say that most of the products of a company like Apple, which gives first priority to quality, should be made outside of China.

Actually apple company products are not Chinese products and not made in china only.

Overall, we often find that people in many parts of the world do not like Chinese products.

Not only that, but the trade war that started and the increased taxes also hit companies like Apple a little in terms of product prices.

As a result, many companies have started shifting production from China for a number of such reasons. Along with these companies, Apple has also started production shifting to some extent.

So, I will explain whole information related to manufacturing of Apple iPhones and its products across the world.

Further, i will tell you about Apple company owner and Apple company founder. But at the same time, I will try to dispel any doubts you may have about the manufacturing of apple.

Lets move towards main topic,

1. Is apple a Chinese company?

Apple is an American technology company that started in 1976 and is considered to be one of the leading technology companies in the world.

Apple was founded by Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and Ronald Wayne. Initially, the company was making and selling computers and in 1977 the name of the company was Apple Computer Inc.

Apple’s headquarters is in California. For many years Apple has made a name for itself by providing excellent services such as software’s, consumer electronics, and online services.

Although Apple made a name for itself by providing the rest of the service, when Apple launched the Apple Stores in 2001, launching the iPod and iMac, Apple’s status began to improve.

Later in 2007, the company renamed to Apple Inc.

In 2011, Tim Cook became the CEO of Apple, before which Jobs Regained was the CEO of Apple. I have taken Wikipedia as source for the above short information but you can read whole history by clicking here on Wikipedia.

1.1 Beginning of iPhone generation:

The company launched the first generation of the iPhone in 2007 and that was the moment when Apple took a huge leap in the field of consumer electronics. With the advent of this iPhone series, Apple’s financial and other things started to get better in the true sense.

Apple’s first generation of iPhone launched only in the US. After that, it was launched in 2007 for sales in other countries like France, UK and Germany. Further, iPhone introduced in 2008 and later in countries like Ireland and India.

After this, the iPhone series like iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 kept on growing and now in 2020, this series has reached the new iPhone ‘iPhone 12 Pro Max’.

Apple has so far received awards for many things, such as design and engineering.

Last year in 2020 the company took 9 awards. Further, the company received 5 awards in 2021 related to the best product and design team, best engineering team, best global culture, and best company outlook.

The biggest thing is that by 2020, Apple has become the most valuable publicly traded company in the world.

Not only that, but Apple has now also emerged as the most valuable tech company. All in all, it’s all about Apple’s achievements and devices.

Now, most importantly, in the next point, let’s take a basic look at where Apple parts are made and in which country the manufacturing/assembly of the iPhone is made.

1.2 Apple manufacturing information & current updates:

Mainly, Apple manufactures parts for its products from many countries around the world. These include the US, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Vietnam, etc.

Apple imports parts from different companies, i.e. countries, and those companies specialized in making those parts. For your information, Apple is currently working with more than 200 suppliers around world.

You may have noticed that Apple does not import its parts from any one country. In short, it seems that Apple is not dependent on any one country for manufacturing parts.

Apple’s three main manufacturing partners are Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. Among them, Foxconn is a major partner of apple.

1.3 What about the assembly and manufacturing of apple?

In terms of assembly, Apple was more dependent on China. Currently, most of the assembly is done in China, but recently Apple has shifted some productions to India, Vietnam, and Malaysia. In next question i have explained this in detail.

Apple has now started assemblies in other countries besides China, such as India and Vietnam.

As we know, Apple already have some ‘made in India’ iPhones and now the assembly of iPhone 12 has started in India.

That is, you will see iPhone 12 along with iPhone 11 with the tag ‘Made in India’. This iPhone 12 is manufactured in India at the plant of Foxconn, a Taiwanese company that is a contract manufacturer for Apple.

In a nutshell, I tried to giving you information on Apple company history and its current updates. I think its enough information related to this topic.

Although, if there are any doubts or if you want to share your thoughts with me, then I am in the comment section to welcome you in advance.

So Apple is not a Chinese company.

However, if you have any more information or want to ask, be sure to comment.

2. iPhone made in china? or Apple manufacturing in Chinese factories?

Yes, but not all iPhones are made in china.

China is not the only country that manufactures parts for the iPhone or assembles apple products. Their parts are imported from many countries of the world and then assembled in China or other countries.

Mostly, Apple phones are assembled in China and now it is assembled in India and other countries too.

One thing to note is that the parts used for Apple’s iPhone, such as batteries, cameras, chips and displays, are not manufactured by any one country.

Apple imports multiple components from different companies who have specialization in making those components. You can read total component related information in article of lifewire.com, where is the iPhone made?

There will be thousands of components in an iPhone, but it is very difficult to identify which component is brought from where. Because, every company always takes it from many suitable sources according to the quality and availability of the components and Apple Company do the same thing.

This means that Apple manufactures all the parts it needs from Japan, South Korea, US, China, Taiwan, India, Vietnam and many other countries.

That is, Apple does not appear to be dependent on a single country for manufacturing.

It’s all about the Apple component, but the two companies that assemble or manufacture it are Foxconn and Pegatron.

2.1 Manufacturing or assembly of iPhone:

Foxconn Taiwanese manufacturer is the main partner of Apple.

Admittedly, mostly Apple company makes iPhone assemblies in Foxconn’s Chinese factory. But Apple has now decided to change them to some extent.

Apart from China, Foxconn has a global manufacturing presence in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Singapore, and the Philippines.

The words ‘Assembled in China’ written on some Apple phones mean that their final assembly held in China. But you can’t say or decide how many Chinese parts have used in it.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has pointed out that Apple parts are produced at U.S. electronics manufacturer Corning’s factories in Kentucky and Texas, but the phones are mostly assembled in China, according to a 2020 New York Times report. You can read full report regarding this on Foxbusiness.

So don’t make any misconceptions like above about Apple’s iPhones and products again. If you still have any doubts about this question, please comment and I will try to reduce it.

In the next question, we will take information about some of the manufacturing shifts that Apple company has started from Chinese factories to other countries.

3. Apple moving out of china to some extent:

You may have heard in the news that Apple has started shifting from China to some extent.

There are many reasons for this, but one of them is the trade war, which has led to an increase in taxes on Chinese imports.

It all started in 2019 when Donald Trump made the announcement.

In 2019, US President Donald Trump announced that 10% tariff would be imposed on $300 billion of Chinese imports.

After this decision, many American companies, which were dependent on China for any reason, had to make a lot of changes. This included not only Apple but also companies like HP and Dell.

The 25% tariff that imposed on Chinese goods included devices like tabs, smartphones, laptops etc.

As a result, companies began to see an increase in product costs and other financial problems.

In the same year of 2019, Apple had decided to bring 15-30% of production out of China. At the same time, HP, Dell and Microsoft had decided to shift production by about 30%.

3.1 Some production shift of apple company out of china:

These production shifts included iPhones and iPads. As you may know, the company decided to start making some of these iPhones in India. After that, iPhone 11 production initiated in India and the iPhone 11 device become made in India.

Not only in India but also in countries like Malaysia and Vietnam, Apple shifted some of its productions.

Even after Biden elected as US president in 2020 election, the decision on tariffs on Chinese imports has not changed. According to several news reports, Biden will not immediately make any changes to the Chinese import tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

At the moment, these decisions do not seem to be changing much and will change in the future, but we cannot say anything about that.

As a result, the company’s labor cost and other costs began to rise, resulting in higher product costs, which indirectly cost the customer more.

That is why companies try to maintain product costs and other things by local production or by shifting production to a country with low labor costs.

All of the above is trade war related information but this is not the only reason why Apple has moved some production from China.

Apart from this, being completely dependent on China is not a good option for Apple considering the next issues like Covid-19, Political Issues, Human Rights Concern, Tarde War, and many more. Regarding this You can read the whole report of apple reducing ipad and iphone production in china on Investopedia.

3.2 Production or devices that Apple company moved or shifting from china:

Let’s take a brief look at what devices Apple has been shifting to and from which countries in the last few years.

In the case of India, in 2017, iPhone started making iPhone SE and iPhone 6S in India.

After 2019, with the help of Apple’s contract manufacturers Foxconn and Wistron, it also started making iPhone 11 with ongoing production of iPhone SE, iPhone XR in India.

It also looks like Apple has already included India in the production of the iPhone 12 and will continue to expand its products.

In the case of Vietnam, Apple has already started some manufacturing of Airpods Pro in Vietnam.

It will also shift some MacBook productions and expand the production of HomePod mini in Vietnam. Not only this, but Apple is also moving iPad production out of China to Vietnam for the first time.

Out of the total Mac mini productions, Apple decided to shift some of them to Malaysia.

Currently, Apple has started production of M1 Mac Mini in Malaysia in 2021, according to some news reports.

Similarly, Apple has also shifted production in Indonesia and the Philippines. Further apple prepared for making assembly there and started the assembly of MacBook and iPad in Indonesia.

Of course, this shifting will cause Apple to face a lot of difficulties as China’s skilled labor, ecosystem, supply chain and infrastructure are more convenient than other countries.

Nevertheless, for some of the reasons mentioned earlier, it would not be a good option for Apple to be completely dependent on China for assembly or manufacturing.

There are many more things to say but I think we’ve got enough information about Apple’s production shifting.

4. Is iPhone 12 made in India?

Yes, the iPhone 12 is being manufactured at the Foxconn plant in Tamil Nadu, India. So now we can consider iPhone 12  as made in India device.

Already, I have mentioned that models like the iPhone 11 are assembled at Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer’s plant in India. But now the iPhone 12 added to the list of manufacturing in India along with other models.

“We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers,” Apple told IANS in a statement.

Importantly, Apple started the iPhone SE device in India in 2017 and has so far extended it to the iPhone 12 device. All in all, this shows that Apple’s future plans in India look very strong.

5. Why some of the iPhone 8 / iPhones labeled with “Designed by Apple in California assembled in china”?

‘Designed by Apple in California and assembled in China’ means that the particular iPhone is assembled in China.

For this question, above i have fully explained how and where iPhones made.

From that, you must have understood about manufacturing and also understood the meaning of the above term. To understand more about this term, read article published on Inc.com in which Apple CEO Tim cook explained everything.

Although this is one of the reasons, there are some other rules for writing like this while importing products in the country.

Therefore, in many places, these questions do not seem to get a satisfactory answer. So I will explain the regulations about product import.

Remember, if any company manufactures or assembles products in another country, they have to mention the name of that country on the products.

Secondly, it is necessary to mention the ‘country of origin’ on the product. ‘Country of Origin’ means where a particular product is made, processed, or grown.

Some countries have implemented this rule, but in some countries, these rules do not apply to products. But the countries that have implemented this rule include India and the USA.

This is why some of Apple’s iPhones have ‘Designed by Apple in California and Assembled in China’ written on them.

6. Conclusion about Apple company: Chinese or not?

I’m sure no one will mistakenly think of Apple as a Chinese company after reading this. Secondly, I have removed all the doubts related to the ‘Made in China’ tag on the iPhone and the manufacturing of the iPhone.

One thing I don’t understand is how people can understand the world’s largest tech company like Apple as a Chinese company.

In fact, as a consumer, your job is to tell others only if you have the right information about the company. Because some people don’t have the right information about the company or the products and they tell others.

Many of these things cause the company’s product sales to drop unnecessarily and I don’t like it.

As you can see, companies like Apple are working hard to create devices that cater to the needs of consumers.

So we see many such companies working hard to make the product quality and standard.

However, it is not right to avoid the products of such a company without knowing proper information.

There is a need to reduce such incidents and that is why I always try to inform everyone about the companies.

In the end, if you feel satisfied after reading this article, please comment and tell me because your thoughts are important to me.

Also, comment if you have any doubts or concerns.
